Flying Ant Massacre

I was sitting alone in our newly purchased home when the living room was overtaken by a troop of what appeared to be flying ants. It was horrifying. I ran to the store and bought some raid. Usually I am a pacifist and prefer to escort insects outside rather than spray my living quarters with chemicals, but this was beyond anything I had previously experienced.

Not So Bad

Someone gave me a free drink in an attempt NOT to appear in this memoir again. I had been thinking of retiring this blog but now that free drinks are involved, well, that changes everything.

Happy Birthday

My birthday was two days ago. My first activity of the day was using a bucket for a toilet. Tyler and I had planned to spend the day in Saskatoon (for more on our move to rural Saskatchewan visit Going Rural). Our trip was delayed by several failed attempts at getting the septic pump to work. When we got to Saskatoon we had breakfast even though it was well past lunch time. Then we went to the "Berry Barn" for pie. The "Berry Barn" specializes in all things made with Saskatoon berries, it was here that I discovered that I am not very fond of Saskatoon berries. Next, we went to Canadian Tire to buy a desperately needed solar shower. They were sold out. We eventually headed to a restaurant I had chosen for dinner. The restaurant was closed (they were enjoying an extended long weekend). Yes, we should have called first but our only phone is a very costly cell (not too fond of Sasktel) which we might return but can only do so if we use less than 100 minutes so...we ate at a pub and then rushed to a movie theatre where "Art School Confidential" was playing. Guess what? It wasn't playing anymore. I had carefully written down the movie listing from the paper... Our luck changed when the girl at the theatre said the movie was still playing at another theatre. We rushed there and made it before the movie started, and it was only mildly disappointing...actually it totally sucked, sigh.

BAD LUCK ENDS BAD LUCK

The thing that I've discovered is this: since I've become unemployed and decreased my time in public considerably, my bad luck has been on the decline. This isn't at all surprising, not much can go wrong when most of my day is spent at home in front of my laptop.

Yup.

Yawn.

Nausea, McDonald's & Me

I haven't puked in public since I was a teenager. Yesterday I had the great displeasure of experiencing it twice. Both times I was on public transport and managed to make it off the bus. After the second time I didn't trust myself on the bus and so I walked the rest of the way home. I've decided to NOT pull a Jonathan Ames and will spare readers the unpleasant details. To make a long story short, I found myself in two completely different locations overcome by nausea and standing in front of the same fast food chain (it was by pure coincidence, I at no time ate at this "restaurant"). The nausea hit hard and fast, there was no time to find a restroom, and so in closing I'd like to say this: the food at McDonald's may be disgusting but thank god they have outdoor shrubbery.

NO WORK!

I was supposed to be temporarily laid off from work, which is frustrating enough, but now after three months of waiting I'm told that it is permanent.

That's it folks. Tyler and I are heading for the prairies.

F*CK!

An artist I know asked my boyfriend and I to document some of his work as part of a web project we've been involved in recently. One such work was lego spelling the word "fuck". I was holding it in one hand while trying to figure out how to present it when suddenly the whole thing just fell apart onto the floor. We hadn't even taken a single shot. We tried to put it back together but there were pieces left over when we were done. That was the end of our photo shoot. F*CK!

Still Waiting...

It's been almost three months of no work.
